Small print runs are very expensive. Typical surf magazine print runs are roughly around 30,000 to 100,000+ copies. 1,000 Limited edition book copies are a whole different deal. Expensive. Even 3,000 book copies would be much cheaper to print. This is a solid book with possibly the most pages in a book of surf photography currently available on the market. Thicker, high quality paper, inlaid photos, special treatment with the contrast of photography and background pages, climate controlled storage, etc. Self publishing gives me full control, but the hidden costs equal a ton of self funded overhead to put out a quality product that will last. This book is basically a labor of love. Add in no sponsorship, advertising, corporate coverage or any other money making angles and it all adds up to an expensive book for me to self publish. For this, I apologize. No cost was spared in the making of my book and every aspect involved is the best quality available. 

Compare my book to the cost of a large wall hanging print or a big night out, and the fact remains that my book will be a future collector's item. There are also no plans for a second printing. There are exactly one thousand, signed and numbered limited edition copies available. These will be marketed solely by myself to re coup my expenses, thus limited availability. I can not afford a distributor.  A large portion of my surf photography from these unforgettable, influential eras and decades was never published. Three years in the making.
